Manvel is a city in Brazoria County, Texas, United States. Its llocated along the Gulf Coast region in the U.S. state of Texas within the Houston–Sugar Land–Baytown metropolitan area.

The population was 3,046 at the 2000 census, but on population signs within the town, this number is said to be at 7,185.

Geography

Manvel is located at 29°28′45″N, 95°21′23″W (29.479200, -95.356299).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 23.3 square miles (60.3 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 3,046 people, 1,085 households, and 870 families residing in the city. The population density was 130.7 people per square mile (50.5/km²). There were 1,148 housing units at an average density of 49.3/sq mi (19.0/km²).

The racial makeup of the city was 91.23% White, 2.33% African American, 0.46% Native American, 0.56% Asian, 3.91% from other races, and 1.51% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 12.87% of the population.

There were 1,085 households out of which 36.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 67.9% were married couples living together, 7.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 19.8% were non-families.

15.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 4.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.80 and the average family size was 3.13.

In the city the population was spread out with 25.8% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 29.9% from 25 to 44, 28.7% from 45 to 64, and 8.5% who were 65 years of age or older.

The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 100.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.3 males.

In family households: 2,651 (741 male householders, 126 female householders). 755 spouses, 808 children (715 natural, 12 adopted, 81 stepchildren), 129 grandchildren, 17 brothers or sisters, 14 parents, 36 other relatives, 25 non-relatives

In nonfamily households: 265 (84 male householders (56 living alone)), 140 female householders (133 living alone)), 41 nonrelatives

Size of family households: 404 2-persons, 221 3-persons, 146 4-persons, 66 5-persons, 19 6-persons, 11 7-or-more-persons.

Size of nonfamily households: 189 1-person, 33 2-persons, 2 3-persons.

601 married couples with children. 109 single-parent households (35 men, 74 women).

92.9% of residents of Manvel speak English at home. 7.1% of residents speak Spanish at home (93% speak English very well, 7% speak English well).

Foreign born population: 21 (0.7%) (57.1% of them are naturalized citizens)

The median income for a household in the city was $57,344, and the median income for a family was $68,125. Males had a median income of $45,602 versus $28,083 for females.

The per capita income for the city was $23,751. About 1.3% of families and 3.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 2.6% of those under age 18 and 1.9% of those age 65 or over.

Education

Students in Manvel attend schools in the Alvin Independent School District.

E.C. Mason Elementary School, Manvel Junior High School and Manvel High School serve the city of Manvel. Manvel was served by Alvin High School (in the city of Alvin) until fall 2006.

Manvel is served by the Alvin Community College system.
